There is a short and long answer to this question, but the simple answer to this question is plain and simply no. Hypnosis whether used in hypnotherapy or in a hypnosis stage show is not dangerous and has no short or long term lasting effects. This is one of the most common misconceptions of hypnosis. In fact most people find that they feel slightly more refreshed after coming out of the hypnotic sleep. It is best to think of hypnosis as simply a deep sleep.
Being hypnotised is a unique experience, in that everyone experiences it slightly differently although most people experience a sense of relaxation and inner peace. On the flip side of this some people do not even realise that they have been hypnotised at all and it is left to their friends or family to tell them what they got up to in the hypnosis stage show.
In fact most people have experienced a form of hypnosis in their life at some point, if you have ever ‘day-dreamed’, this is a light form of hypnosis. Hypnosis is the key to unlocking your conscious mind and exploring you semi-consciousness and imagination.
You will not be forced or even asked to do something too lewd or inappropriate during The Hypnotic Humour Show or any hypnosis stage show for that matter. Once more if you were asked to do something that you would deem inappropriate or against your morals you will simply not do it. This is because when you are hypnotised you still retain all of your own morals and beliefs.
Almost anyone can be hypnotised, the key to successful hypnotism is wanting or at the very least allowing yourself to be hypnotised. You cannot be hypnotised against your will, so if you are determined not to get hypnotised odds are you probably won’t. For The Hypnotic Humour Show all we ask is that the audience comes with an open mind and for the volunteers an even more open mind!
There are no laws to actually stop stage hypnotists but there are laws that all stage hypnotists must obey. All stage hypnotists have to abide by the 1952 Stage Hypnosis Act. (amended in 1994). The home office recently reviewed the situation and advised that as long as these guidelines and laws are followed then hypnotism in a hypnosis stage show is harmless. Moreover a fairly recent court case involving one of the UK’s most famous hypnotists namely Paul McKenna ruled that stage hypnotism cannot cause mental disorders or any ill effects.
